Between Us is a deeply personal exploration of my mother Amy’s experience as a caregiver, caught between supporting my grandmother, Abee, who has dementia, and my Aunt Kim who struggles with mental illness and addiction, and is currently an IV drug user.
Through still photography and multimedia storytelling, including archival family images, I aim to reveal the emotional weight of long-term caregiving, the complexities of family loyalty, and the toll these responsibilities take on identity and well-being.
As I document my mother’s sacrifices, I also confront my own fears—am I bound to the same cycles of caretaking, anxiety, and self-sacrifice that have shaped the women in my family, or can I break free?
