Hi, my name is Kara…

Photograph by Mackenzie Stevenson

I’m a proud RIT alum, where I earned my BFA in Photojournalism in May 2025. I recently moved back to the tundra of upstate New York after spending six months in Las Vegas as a photography intern at the Las Vegas Review-Journal. This summer, I’m excited to head to Virginia to work with the Richmond Times-Dispatch and experience another new part of the country.

My work is rooted in building meaningful, empathetic connections with the people I photograph. I’m drawn to telling stories that feel honest, creative, and grounded in trust.

I grew up surrounded by dysfunction, which made me observant, curious, and deeply attuned to people. That experience shaped how I see the world—and how I photograph it.

I’m a sucker for negative space, and I’m always looking for humor in everyday life. I believe everything happens for a reason—but you can also anticipate a lot if you’re paying attention.

When I’m not working, I’m probably painting, making collages (junk journaling!!), taking long walks, going to the movies, listening to the Grateful Dead, or hanging out with my Maine Coon, Goose.
